RISCA: Governor Lincoln D. Chafee Portrait Commission

The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts is issuing a call for portrait artists interested in a commission of up to $15,000 (inclusive of all costs and expenses) to produce a complete and framed oil painting as the official portrait of Governor Lincoln D. Chafee. The commission must be completed on or before December 30, 2014. The portrait size must be not less than 29 x 25 and not more than 114 x 74 inches.

The Governor will choose an artist from submitted work samples, and the selected artist will be required to work with and receive direction from the Governor regarding certain aspects of the commission, and work with the Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission with respect to framing of the finished portrait. Artists must submit a resume and six digital images of previously commissioned work through CallforEntry.org. All digital images must be accompanied by a list showing the artist name, title of work or subject, medium, size, year completed, and commission price or fee for each sample work submitted. Original works of art will not be accepted as part of the review process. Applications must be submitted by Friday, January 10, 2014. A decision is anticipated by no later than April 2014.
