RINSE/REPEAT

RINSE/REPEAT explores concepts of ritual or routine in creative practice, where the experience is intentional and sacred—not solely focused on the product or outcome, but on the set of actions. When does action transcend habit to become something more meaningful? Submissions are accepted in any artistic discipline including performance, installation, sound, digital media, painting, photography, textiles, ceramic, sculpture, or mixed media. Suitable works may employ pattern, repetition, meditation, or recurring shapes or visual elements; or be multiples or part of a series. Comments on the theme could range from what is held as sacred to the most mundane, trivial aspects of daily life or studio practice.

This juried exhibition is open to any artist over 18 who currently resides in the US. Artists may submit up to three images as .jpeg files. Artworks must have been created within the past three years and not previously shown in any other Ann Arbor Art Center exhibitions. Submissions must include a bio and CV as separate .doc documents labeled using the format: Lastname_Firstname_CV and Lastname_Firstname_Bio. The jurying process is anonymous. Entry fee is $35. Submission deadline is Thursday, July 26 at 11:59 PM MST. Artists will be notified of juror selections by Monday, July 30 via email. Accepted artwork delivery deadline is Monday, August 13. Opening reception and awards presentation is Friday, August 17 from 6-9pm. Exhibition closes Saturday, September 15. Work pickup is Sunday, September 16 through Thursday, September 20.

Awards include $500 Best in Show, $200 Second Place, $100 Third Place, and two Honorable Mention awards. The exhibition is juried by Marlee Grace, an improvisational dancer known for her Instagram account Personal Practice, where she documents her daily movement practice. Accepted artworks must arrive ready to hang. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and insurance. It is preferable that artworks are for sale; the Art Center retains a 50% commission on all sold artwork. Submission fees are non-refundable.
