About This Call
Denver Arts & Venues Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create an original work of art for River North (RiNo) Park, located on the corner of 35th Street and Arkins Boulevard. The selection panel has recommended a site-specific artwork to be integrated into the construction of one of the Play areas of the park. The panel is interested in commissioning an artwork that can be experienced by a variety of users in non-traditional ways and adds an element of discovery, adventure, and playfulness to the site. This commission is open to Colorado artists and artist teams working in all media, with a commission amount of $45,000 USD.
Artworks that are tactile, climbable, and/or interactive, and serve to enhance the experience of park users are encouraged. The selection panel is also open to projects that incorporate light and/or sound. Two-dimensional works are not being commissioned. All applicants must consider long-term conservation and maintenance of public art. Projects will be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials and reviewed by the City of Denver's Public Art Committee to ensure conformity with city standards of maintenance and durability, as well as ADA standards.
Applicants must submit six digital images, a résumé, and a statement of interest (no longer than 5,000 characters) via www.callforentry.org. Up to three artists or artist teams will be selected to attend an interview with the art selection panel and design team. From these interviews, one artist or artist team will be selected to work with the design team to finalize designs and implement the public art project. The selected artist or artist team is expected to collaborate with the RiNo Park design team and Denver Public Art Program staff. The $45,000 budget is inclusive of all costs including design and consultation time, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and any other project-related expenses. Prevailing wage requirements will apply for all work done on city property. Entry deadline: January 15, 2016, 11:59 p.m. MST. This project is open to artists who currently live and work in Colorado.
