About This Call

The Art Selection Committee of the Stanley A. Ringer Park memorials project invites artists and landscape designers to submit public art qualifications for one or several transformative, permanent public art installations that will serve as a tribute to four cherished community members: Stanley A. Ringer, William Margolin, Brian Honan, and Dawnn Jaffier. The project is intended to contribute to the safety of Stanley A. Ringer Park while recognizing the civic and community contributions of the honorees. Stanley A. Ringer Park is a 12.38-acre Olmsted-designed public park located in the heart of the Allston-Brighton neighborhoods of Boston. The landscape features grassy rolling hills with stands of trees, a softball field, two basketball courts, tennis courts, and an urban wilds wooded area with hiking trails. The park also houses a playground, chess tables, and a water feature.

Eligibility: Preference will be given to local and regional applications. Applicants are expected to have completed outdoor art or landscape design projects before. Work sample requirements: 10-15 images and 0-2 videos (15 total samples maximum).

The total anticipated budget for fabrication and installation is $200,000-$250,000. Up to five shortlisted finalists will receive $3,000 honoraria for initial concept development and presentations. General criteria include: celebrate the honorees with a transformative public art installation, enhance existing active or passive recreational areas, design will offer a sense of place, appropriateness for the site including scale and safety, low maintenance permanent materials, and adherence to ADA guidelines as appropriate. Entry deadline: 12/10/16 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Submit qualifications to www.callforentry.org.
