About This Call
Emotions Matter (BPD) invites those with lived experience of borderline personality disorder as an individual, family member, or professional to submit artwork to "Riding the Waves: Living with Borderline Personality Disorder: An Art Show 2024 in NYC." This is the 4th Emotions Matter Art Show.
The art show has three purposes: to raise public awareness about borderline personality disorder (BPD), a highly stigmatized and often misunderstood mental illness; to empower artists to tell their stories through art, fostering self-agency and leadership; and to inspire those impacted by BPD to achieve recovery, offering hope and support.
Both 2D and 3D artwork are eligible. No shipping of artwork is required. Submissions must include an artist statement describing the piece and its relation to the artist's lived experience with BPD. Art will be judged on adherence with submission criteria, goodness of fit with the theme, artistic expression, and ability. Selected artists must be willing to have their submission appear on the Emotions Matter website and may be invited to participate in educational products produced from the event, such as books, posters, or postcards. Selected artists will be required to review and sign a waiver and release form to allow Emotions Matter to use and display their work. Artists retain ownership of their artwork at all times. Participating artists may receive a complimentary copy of select printed materials and feedback about their art. The entry fee is $25. Those experiencing financial difficulties may contact [email protected] to inquire about possible assistance. The submission deadline is July 31st at 10pm Eastern time. Selected artwork will be announced by email. A virtual Artists Roundtable Discussion on Zoom will be held (date TBA). The exhibition will be displayed on the Emotions Matter website and as a poster display in NYC on Tuesday, October 22nd.
