About This Call
The Griffin Museum announces the Richards Family Prize, an inaugural $4,000 scholarship for mid-career photographers. The scholarship supports professional and mid-career photographers worldwide producing creative and original work. The Griffin Museum supports visual artists in photography across all genres, from fine art to documentary and photojournalism, including digital, film-based, and cameraless images.
The museum defines "professional" as any photographer who earns the majority of their income from photography, and "mid-career" as any photographer with visibility in exhibitions, gallery representation, and scholarship or residency success. In addition to the $4,000 scholarship funds, the Richards Prize includes a published catalog by Griffin Museum Press and an exhibition in December 2025.
Eligibility is open to creative artists and photographers producing individual works of photography, installation, moving images, or sculpture, with no age limit or residency requirements. There is no application fee. Ineligible applicants include employees of the Griffin Museum or their immediate families, Griffin Museum board members and jurors' immediate families, and immediate families of Griffin board members or jurors' paid employees. Submissions must be made through Café and include a brief biography and artistic CV, a statement of artistic purpose/intent, a statement on the work supplied, and 10 flattened RGB JPGs (1200 pixels on the longest side) or videos. The application period runs from September 15, 2024 through October 31, 2024 at 11:59 PM Mountain Time. The juror is Aline Smithson, an interdisciplinary artist, filmmaker, and educator based in Los Angeles. For questions, contact [email protected] with "Richards Prize" in the subject line.
