About This Call

The RI State Council on the Arts and the University of Rhode Island are commissioning 2D or 3D artwork for the outer walls and classroom spaces in the Living/Learning Room of the Harrington School of Communication and Media. The budget is $20,000 and is all-inclusive, including installation, lighting, wiring, and/or screens if digital work is submitted. The artwork should reference communications in some way. One artist will be commissioned to ensure continuity of aesthetic. This RFQ is limited to artists from New England and New York.

Submissions must include six digital images of relevant artwork completed within the past ten years, a current resume, and a brief description of a potential site-specific proposal. Applications are submitted through CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org with no application fee. Three finalists will be selected and asked to develop detailed proposals including itemized budgets, scale models, renderings, and in-depth project descriptions. Each finalist will receive a $500 honorarium, which includes all travel expenses for the site visit and presentation meeting.

The deadline for submissions is January 17, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. EST. The estimated timeline includes panel review in late February, artist notification in late February, finalist site visits in March, finalist presentations in April, and final approval by the RISCA Council in May. The selected artist will enter into contract with the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, and the completed artwork will be owned and maintained by the State of Rhode Island. For questions, contact Elizabeth Keithline at [email protected].
