About This Call
The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and the Rhode Island National Guard are commissioning artwork for the Joint Force Headquarters located at 2841 South County Trail, East Greenwich, RI 02818. The budget is $26,500, all-inclusive of materials, fabrication, engineer fees, permits, installation, lighting, and wiring. Artwork will be placed in the 1st and/or 2nd floor lobbies or the exterior site in front of the building. Exterior works should not interfere with visibility around the facility. Interior works may be 3-dimensional, freestanding, wall-mounted, or painted. One artist or artist team will be commissioned.
Eligibility is open to working artists residing in Rhode Island, Connecticut, or Massachusetts. Students are not eligible. This Request for Qualifications is the first step in the public art selection process. Submissions must include a minimum of five and maximum of ten digital images of work completed within the past ten years, a current resume, and a brief one-paragraph statement of vision for the project. All materials must be submitted digitally through CaFÉ. There is no charge to apply.
Three finalists will be selected and invited to craft detailed proposals including itemized budgets, scale models, renderings, and in-depth project descriptions. Each finalist will receive an honorarium of $1,000, which includes all travel expenses for site visits and presentation meetings. The estimated timeline includes a submission deadline of January 18, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. EST, with panel review in February 2021, finalist site visits in February 2021, finalist presentations in March 2021, and final approval by the RISCA Council in Spring 2021. The panel will select based on artistic quality and suitability of work. The accepted artwork will be owned and maintained by the State of Rhode Island.
