About This Call

Request for Qualifications for public artwork at the Laramie Regional Office and Wildlife Forensic and Fish Health Lab. Submissions are due May 31, 2017 via CaFÉ. This RFQ is open only to resident Wyoming artists. Artists must submit required documents and images demonstrating their interest and expertise. The selection committee will evaluate the quality of the artist's portfolio, cover letter addressing the project, and experience with public art processes and collaboration with architects and facility managers. Selected artists will be invited to submit complete formal design proposals including budget, timeline, and references.

Up to $90,000 is available for artwork, which may be allocated for multiple artists and locations. Three possible artwork locations have been identified: the lobby (2D work, small 3D pieces, ceiling-mounted/hanging work, or integrated floor/railing elements); lab hallways (2D artwork reflecting the lab's purpose and activities); and outdoors (monumental sculpture for the berm and northeast parking lot entrance, with interest in kinetic or aesthetically dynamic work suggesting movement). Suggested themes include science/biology, wildlife management, Wyoming birds, trout fishing, moose, pheasant hunting, Snowy Range Mountains, Medicine Bow Peak, Laramie Peak, Platte River, and family hunting/fishing activities. All styles, conceptual approaches, and mediums are encouraged. Artwork must be durable, structurally sound, secure, site-appropriate, and easy to maintain.

The selection committee will review submissions in early June, with finalists asked to submit complete design proposals. A decision will be made in August 2017. If in-person presentations are required, modest financial compensation will be provided for final design proposals and presentations; all other travel is the artist's responsibility. For questions, contact Rachel Clifton, Wyoming Arts Council, 307-777-5305, [email protected].
