RFQ: Ceiling-based/Hanging Artwork at New Highmark Stadium

The Buffalo Bills Public Art Program seeks to commission professional visual artists or artist teams to create site-specific ceiling-based, hanging, or suspended artwork for two locations in New Highmark Stadium. One artist or artist team will be selected for each location. The artwork will be thematic, public-facing, and part of the permanent collection.

Ceiling-based artworks may include sculptural works, mixed-media or assemblage, illuminated artwork utilizing electricity or digital components, or relief or ceiling-mounted sculptural works. Artwork will be located in public pedestrian circulation areas above person-reaching height to avoid interference with seating, concessions, monitors, wayfinding, and ADA regulations. Pieces must be designed to withstand weather, temperature fluctuations, occasional contact from the public or maintenance staff, and must use archival materials due to exposure to natural light, weather, temperature changes, air circulation, dust, debris, and high-traffic from visitors and fans. Installation must follow weight limitations and not interfere with functional lighting or life safety components.

Location 1: 300 Level Concourse, Vertical Circulation (Stairwell/Escalators overhead area) – Budget up to $250,000. Location 2: East Club, Vertical Circulation – Budget up to $200,000. Artwork themes should welcome visitors and locals, embodying moments in Buffalo Bills football history, Buffalo NY, local landmarks, fan engagement, traditions, or other meaningful representations in realistic or abstract styles. Applicants must submit 5-10 images and 0-2 videos (5-12 total samples). Semi-finalists will be invited to submit a Request for Proposals phase including proposal, rendering images, description, materials, and budget breakdown. The total artwork area may not exceed specifications in the RFP. New Highmark Stadium is under construction in Orchard Park, New York, and is expected to open in time for the 2026 NFL season.
