About This Call
Providence Children's Museum invites artists, creatives, designers, engineers, and makers to submit proposals for the design and fabrication of immersive installations for kids and their adults as part of the Museum's Creativity Initiative. Selected artists and creatives will work in collaboration with Museum staff to bring active, kid-centered, creative spaces to life.
The Creativity Initiative is a three-year project designed to build creative confidence in visitors by actively engaging with makers, processes, and environments. Immersive installations are built environments that create multisensory, all-encompassing experiences unified by a theme or storyline, in which visitors can interact and actively explore their surroundings. Each installation will celebrate and showcase creativity, give a window into the creative process, and support hands-on interactive exploration. For 2020, creatives must respond to one of two themes: Biomimicry (design and production of materials and structures modeled on biological entities and processes) or Designed/Imagined Worlds (imagine and design a unique world that contrasts with our own).
Eligibility: Applicants must be residents of Rhode Island, Connecticut, or Massachusetts. Individuals or groups, regardless of experience level or background, can apply. Preliminary proposals are due January 10, 2020 at 11:59 PM MST. Select applicants will be asked to submit refined proposals by February 7, 2020. Installation is scheduled for December 2020 with a minimum duration of five months. Selected proposals receive a $10,000 Creative's Stipend and $8,000 Materials Budget. Applicants may submit up to 3 applications. Work samples should include 3-20 images, 0-3 audio files, and 0-3 video files. Information sessions and tours are available December 7, 2019 and January 4, 2020 at 2 PM. Contact [email protected] or (401) 273-5437 ext. 134 for more information.
