About This Call
The Minnesota State Arts Board, on behalf of the Minnesota Department of Administration and Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf, requests proposals from working professional artists or artist-led teams for a permanent, site-specific public artwork at the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf, Frechette Hall in Faribault, Minnesota.
This is a two-phase RFP process. Artist qualifications will be evaluated during Phase I, and up to three finalists will be selected to develop a schematic design proposal during Phase II. Finalists will receive a $2,000 stipend upon completion of Phase II deliverables. An all-inclusive budget of $66,000 is available for the final artwork, covering design fees, labor, consultants, travel, materials, site preparation, installation, documentation, insurance, taxes, and contingency.
Working professional artists or artist-led teams residing in the United States are eligible to apply. Responders must be at least 18 years of age. Preference will be given to artists who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, signers, late-deafened, deaf-blind, seeing, or CODA. The artwork must be durable, low maintenance, permanent, suitable for interior or exterior display, safe for children and adults, and ADA compliant. Proposed artwork will be located in publicly accessible areas of the facility and should provoke thought on the diversity of the school, be compatible with student needs, help visitors embrace the school's family atmosphere, contribute to contemporary art dialogue, and enrich Minnesota's public art collection. Proposals must be submitted online through the CaFÉ system no later than 11:59 P.M. (MT), Thursday, June 8, 2017. Questions regarding the RFP must be submitted by email to [email protected] by 4:30 PM (CT), May 30, 2017.
