About This Call
This is a sculptural open call for a retirement community located in the Charleston, SC area that offers independent living, assisted living, skilled/nursing care, and memory care. The call seeks both indoor wall-mounted sculpture and outdoor freestanding sculpture suitable for a courtyard.
Accepted media includes wall-mounted sculpture (ceramic, acrylic, wood, metal, glass) that cannot project off the wall more than 4 inches, and outdoor freestanding sculpture. Artwork should be reflective of the local vernacular including the low country, coastal, and marsh environments, or nature-based abstraction. Both non-figurative and figurative work will be considered. Artwork should convey positivity, be joyful and uplifting, and community-oriented. Avoid cliché or touristy beach-themed pieces and concentrated amounts of red and black.
Artists must be located within South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, or Florida, and must be at least 18 years of age and legal residents of the United States. Artists must include their current location or hometown with their submission and must be able to ship or deliver the artwork. A brief written description for each piece is required. If an artist does not currently have a piece fitting the specified sizes, they may provide examples of their work and indicate availability for commission requests. Submissions should include 1-5 images. Project installation for indoor sculpture is estimated for January/February 2022, and outdoor sculpture for early Spring/Summer 2022.
