About This Call
Sanchez Art Center invites visual artists to submit work for "Resilience: adapting to challenging events," an exhibition running June 9 – July 9, 2023, with an opening reception on Friday, June 9, 7–9 pm.
This exhibition encourages artists to act as ambassadors for resilience—both personal and climate-related—by applying their artistic talent to widen people's perceptions and ability to develop resilience personally and for their communities. Resilience refers to the process and outcome of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging experiences. Climate resilience is the ability to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to hazardous events related to climate. Emotional resilience refers to one's ability to adapt to stressful situations or crises.
Eligibility: Open to all visual artists residing or creating in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Sonoma counties who are 16 years and older. All fine arts visual media will be considered. Artwork shown in prior juried exhibitions at Sanchez Art Center is not eligible. Work must fit through a standard-sized door (80" x 35") and weigh less than 50 lbs. Framed 2D work must be wired (no sawtooth hangers).
Submission Requirements: Artists may submit up to 5 entries, including jpegs and up to 3 videos (no longer than 5 minutes). Entry fee is $10 for the first image or video; additional entries are $5 each. Checks should be made payable to Sanchez Art Center and mailed to: 1220-B Linda Mar Blvd, Pacifica, CA 94044. Entry deadline is Tuesday, April 25, 2023, 11 pm PDT. Accepted artists will be notified by May 2. Hand-delivery of work: May 21, 5–6:30 pm or May 22, 10 am–12 pm. Pick-up: July 9, 5–6:30 pm or July 10, 10 am–12 pm. Artists invited to exhibit will be requested to provide an artist statement and short bio. A community engagement event will be held on Saturday, June 24 or Sunday, June 25 (afternoon) at Sanchez Art Center. Sales are encouraged; Sanchez Art Center retains a 30% commission on works sold.
