About This Call

The University of Northern Colorado seeks qualifications from artists interested in creating exterior artwork for the new College of Osteopathic Medicine building in Greeley, Colorado. Multiple artworks will be commissioned with total funding available up to $840,000. The budget covers all costs associated with the commissioned public artworks, including artist fee, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, building or site modifications, travel, per diem expenses, project documentation, and contingency expenses. Budgets for specific locations will be provided to semifinalists.

The committee is looking for artworks to address potential locations around the exterior of the new College of Osteopathic Medicine building. The committee is interested in multiple artworks from multiple artists; the total budget will be split between multiple commissions in amounts to be determined. There is potential for a single artist to create artwork in multiple locations. Artworks should address the building's focus on holistic health and community care and wellbeing, activate the exterior of the building, and draw in and welcome the community. As maintenance is a top concern, kinetic or technology-based artworks are not of interest. Materials must withstand northern Colorado weather conditions (sun, wind, snow).

Potential locations include: North Sculpture Garden (electrical available), South Sculpture Garden (electrical available), East Entrance Garden along 11th Avenue (no electrical), Bioswale to the south (no electrical), and Community Park to the north (no electrical, closest to residential area with mature trees to be preserved). The Selection Committee will consider artistic excellence, scale, material, form and content, safety of materials, appropriate relationship to site function, resistance to wear/vandalism/theft, and ease of maintenance. Semifinalists will be invited to prepare and present final proposals in person in Greeley, Colorado and will be paid an honorarium between $1,000-$1,500. Applications must include 6-8 digital images of previously completed artworks, a current résumé, and a brief statement of interest submitted via CaFÉ. There is no application fee. Contact Ruth Wilson at [email protected] or 303-880-6671 for questions.
