About This Call
The City of Baltimore, Baltimore Public Art Commission, and Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts seek interested artists and/or artist collaborators to submit qualifications for inclusion in Baltimore's Pre-Qualified Public Artist List. The list will remain in effect for two years and will be utilized for upcoming public art projects under the 1%-for-Public Art Program, most importantly federally funded construction projects requiring artists to work directly with project design firms to incorporate artwork into the plan.
Applications must be submitted through the CAFÉ online application system and include an artist statement, current resume, ten (10) images of completed past artworks with detailed documentation, and five (5) professional references. Public art project budgets range from $20,000 to $500,000 and are inclusive of design, artist fees, fabrication, installation, insurance, and all other associated costs. Artwork commissioned under the program must withstand high-traffic, unmonitored outdoor environments with very limited maintenance.
Any professional artist or artist team age 18 and older is eligible to apply, except current Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts employees and Public Art Commission members. The Baltimore Public Art Commission will review qualifications based on aesthetic merit, appropriateness of artistic concepts, and experience in creating public artworks in collaboration with architects, design teams, and community members. Inclusion on the Pre-Qualified Public Artist List does not guarantee commission of artwork, and artists must reapply every two years to remain on the list.
