About This Call
Cedars-Sinai healthcare organization and the Cedars-Sinai Advisory Council for the Arts are requesting artists and artist teams based in the greater Los Angeles area to submit qualifications for a public art project. The project will be located at a new Cedars-Sinai healthcare facility currently under construction at the intersection of Mindanao Way and Lincoln Blvd in Marina del Rey. Cedars-Sinai seeks to create a cheerful and uplifting landmark that reflects its values and mission for outstanding care while adhering to rigorous standards set by the Advisory Council for the Arts.
Qualified professional artists (3-5) will be selected and invited to create a proposal for a permanent large-scale outdoor two-dimensional ceramic tile/mosaic wall installation approximately 16 feet high by 120 feet wide. The artwork should be conducive to a healing environment, considering nature, cheerful, uplifting, colorful, and inclusive elements. Artists must be open to community engagement and feedback. Ceramic tile/mosaic was chosen for its durability, low maintenance, compatibility with coastal weather, and safety compliance.
Applications must include: artist resume (minimum 5 years professional visual art experience, maximum 2 pages), artist statement/biography (150 words or less), statement of interest (600 words or less addressing interest in the project, public art experience, connection to Cedars-Sinai, community engagement experience, and how the work will enhance the organization), three professional references, and 6-10 images of original completed artworks demonstrating qualifications for large-scale public works (completed within the last 10 years, one image per artwork). Up to 3 documentation videos may be submitted as links. A corresponding list for images must include title, medium, dimensions, project budget, year completed, location, and brief description. Artists selected to advance to the proposal phase will receive a $2,500 honorarium. The artist or artist team awarded the project will receive a $50,000 design fee for design, oversight, collaboration on execution, and community engagement participation. All fabrication and installation expenses are the responsibility of the project team. Overall project budget is expected not to exceed $350,000. Final project completion is expected Spring 2026.
