Request for Proposals - Open Call 2023

Arts Council of Lake Oswego invites artists working in any medium to submit an artwork or proposal for an artwork in response to a piece of art from Lake Oswego's permanent art collection. New artworks and existing permanent collection pieces will be curated into an exhibition on view at the ARTspace gallery September 8 - October 27, 2023. Lake Oswego's permanent collection can be viewed in person at various locations throughout the city or online at Public Art Archive.

The goal of this exhibition is to bring together a diverse group of artists whose work explores, contextualizes, and re-imagines pieces from the City of Lake Oswego's permanent art collection. Submissions must respond to one or more of the featured permanent collection artworks. Accepted work will be exhibited in the ARTspace gallery (open Tuesdays through Fridays, 10am to 5pm). The gallery is free and open to the public. Various programs are planned during the exhibition to add dimension and provide more opportunities for visitors to engage with the artwork.

Entry fee is $30 (waived for Arts Council members at the Friend level or above). Submissions must include clear high-resolution photos of original artwork or proposals in JPEG, PNG or PDF format, a brief description explaining how the work was inspired by a permanent collection piece, artwork title/date/medium/dimensions, and an up-to-date artist statement. Only one work of art per artist will be considered, but up to 3 work samples may be submitted. Artwork must be original and ready for exhibition upon arrival. Accepted artwork must be for sale with a 30% commission to the Arts Council. Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping and insurance. Artwork not sold must be picked up by November 8, 2023, or work with prepaid return shipping will be returned within two weeks of the exhibition close. Entry deadline: July 23, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artists will be notified by July 31. Artwork must be delivered to ARTspace Gallery by September 5. Opening reception: September 8, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
