About This Call
Providence Children's Museum invites artists, creatives, designers, engineers, and makers to submit proposals for the design and fabrication of immersive installations for kids and their adults as part of the Museum's Creativity Initiative. Selected artists and creatives will work in collaboration with Museum staff to bring active, kid-centered, creative spaces to life.
The Creativity Initiative is a three-year project designed to build creative confidence in visitors by actively engaging with creative makers, processes, and environments. The Museum is seeking proposals for temporary immersive installations—built environments that create multisensory experiences unified by a theme or storyline, in which visitors can interact and actively explore their surroundings. Each installation will celebrate and showcase creativity, give a window into the creative process, and support hands-on interactive exploration. Applicants must choose one installation date (June 2019, October 2019, or December 2019) and respond to one of three themes: Line, Shape, Color; Form, Space, Texture; or Synesthesia. Each installation will last a minimum of three months.
Eligibility: Individuals or groups of any experience level can apply. Applicants must be residents of Rhode Island, Connecticut, or Massachusetts. Creatives can submit up to 3 proposals per year, but may receive only one commission during the 3-year initiative. Selected proposals will receive a $5,000 Creative's Stipend and $5,000 Materials Budget. Submission deadline: December 17, 2018 at 11:59 PM EST. Work sample requirements: minimum 3 images, maximum 12 images; up to 3 audio files and 3 video files; total samples between 3 and 18. Information sessions and site visits are available on Wednesday, November 14 at 6:30 PM and Saturday, November 17 at 1:00 PM. Contact: [email protected] or (401) 273-5437 ext. 134.
