Request for Proposals for Livermorium Utility Box Murals

The City of Livermore is seeking proposals from qualified artists or muralists to design and install murals on utility boxes located at Livermorium Plaza at 116 S. Livermore Avenue, Livermore, CA 94550. Entry is open to professional artists who have completed outdoor murals. All artworks must be original designs suitable for viewing by all ages.

The utility boxes have the following dimensions: a light green box measuring 20" wide by 27" deep by 60" tall (paintable area 20" wide by 12" deep by 36½" height); a gray box behind the light green box measuring 20" wide by 12" deep by 60" tall; and an additional gray box measuring 36" wide by 24" deep by 60" tall. The side facing Locanda Wine Bar will have a wine-country theme, while the side facing the plaza will have a science or Livermorium-theme. Installation will require sanding, primer, acrylic paint, and an anti-graffiti clear coat. The selected artist will receive a stipend of up to $2,000 and must provide all materials.

Proposals must include concept drawings (hand-drawn or computer generated, JPG or PDF, no larger than 2 MB) showing the front, sides, and top of the utility box, and a statement of interest (2,000 characters maximum) describing your interest in the project, experience with public art, and how your mural will transform the plaza. All visuals must be submitted in JPG format with minimum 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 ppi/dpi resolution. Deadline to submit proposals is March 7, 2025. Installation is scheduled for April 2025 with a mural completion deadline of May 10, 2025. The artwork will become City of Livermore property with a minimum 5-year expected lifespan.
