About This Call
Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center presents Representing the West: A New Frontier, an exhibition open to all artists. The exhibition seeks original artwork in any medium that considers the changing cultures and myths of the American West. Non-traditional subject matter, materials, and concepts are welcome, as well as traditional depictions of the West, including video submissions. Artists must submit an artist's statement of 200 words or less explaining how their work represents the West and applies to the exhibition's premise.
Submissions must include 1-5 digital images or video files. Works must have been completed within the last two years (2015 or later) and must not have been previously shown at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center. The non-refundable entry fee is $35 and includes up to five entries per artist. The exhibition runs February 2 through May 6, 2018, with an opening reception on February 2 from 4:30-7 p.m. and an Artists'/Juror's Talk on February 3 from 11 a.m. to noon.
Juror Melanie Yazzie is a printmaker, painter, and sculptor whose work draws upon her Diné (Navajo) cultural heritage. She is a Professor of Art Practices and Head of Printmaking at University of Colorado Boulder. More than $5,000 in prize money will be awarded: $3,500 for Best of Show, $1,000 for 1st Prize, $500 for 2nd Prize, and a solo exhibit opportunity for the People's Choice Award winner. Sangre de Cristo Arts Center manages all sales and receives a 40% commission on the retail price. Artists are responsible for transportation to and from the exhibition at their own expense and risk. Artwork must remain on exhibit through May 6, 2018. For more information, contact LuDel Walter, Visual Arts Coordinator, at 719-295-7200 ext. 7218 or [email protected].
