About This Call
Representing the West: A New Frontier is open to all artists. The exhibition is interested in artwork in any medium that considers the changing cultures and myths of the American West, including non-traditional subject matter, materials, and concepts as well as traditional depictions. Audio and video submissions are welcome.
Artists may submit up to five entries per artist. All images must be submitted in digital form. Works must have been completed within the last two years and must not have been previously shown at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center. The non-refundable entry fee is $35. High-resolution images of 300 dpi or higher will be requested from accepted artists for publication purposes.
All wall-hung pieces must arrive prepared for hanging without saw-tooth hangers. All works on paper must be framed under glass or plexiglass. 3D pieces must be stable and ready to display. All pieces must be clean and in good condition. CDs or thumbdrives for audio and/or video submissions are acceptable if files are in a format the center can open. All pieces must be for sale, with the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center managing sales and receiving a 40% commission on the retail price. Accepted work must remain on exhibit through March 19, 2017.
Awards include $3,500 for Best of Show, $1,000 for 1st prize, $500 for 2nd prize, and a solo exhibit for People's Choice. Important dates: October 21, 2016 for submission deadline; November 11, 2016 for acceptance notification; January 13, 2017 for artwork drop-off; January 28, 2017 for exhibition opening; February 3, 2017 for opening reception at 4:30-7 p.m.; March 19, 2017 for last day of exhibition; and March 20-24, 2017 for artwork pickup.
