About This Call

Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center's 2020 Representing the West: A New Frontier Exhibition is a juried exhibition open to all artists. The exhibition seeks artwork that considers the changing cultures and myths of the American West, welcoming both non-traditional and traditional subject matter, materials, and concepts. More than $5,000 in prize money will be awarded: $3,500 for Best of Show, $1,000 for 1st Prize, and $500 for 2nd Prize. The People's Choice Award winner will be offered a one-person show in one of the center's galleries. Audio and video submissions are not accepted.

Artists may submit up to five entries for a non-refundable $40 entry fee. Works must be original, completed within the last three years (2016 or later), and not previously shown at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center. An artist's statement of 200 words or less explaining how the work represents the West is required. Digital images must be submitted in high-resolution format (at least 300 dpi) as .tiff or .jpg files reproducible at 1,650 pixels wide. Submissions are accepted online at www.callforentry.org or via email at [email protected]. The entry deadline is November 8, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Notification of acceptance will be sent by November 18, 2019.

Accepted artworks must arrive prepared for hanging (no saw-tooth hangers). All works on paper must be framed under glass or plexiglass; 3D pieces must be stable and ready to display. Artwork drop-off or delivery is due by January 17, 2020. The exhibition runs February 7 through May 10, 2020, with an opening reception on February 7 from 5:00-7 p.m. and an Artists'/Juror's Talk on February 8 from 11:15 a.m. to noon. Artwork pickup or return occurs May 11-22, 2020. The Sangre de Cristo Arts Center manages all sales and receives a 40% commission on retail price. Artists are responsible for transportation costs and return shipping. The juror is Nicole M. Crawford, Assistant Director and Chief Curator at the University of Wyoming Art Museum.
