About This Call
Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center invites artists to enter the 2019 Representing the West: A New Frontier juried exhibition. The exhibition is open to all artists and seeks original artwork in any medium that considers the changing cultures and myths of the American West. Both traditional and non-traditional subject matter, materials, and concepts are welcome, including video submissions. Artists must submit an artist's statement of 200 words or less explaining how their work represents the West.
More than $5,000 in prize money will be awarded: $3,500 for Best of Show, $1,000 for 1st Prize, and $500 for 2nd Prize. The People's Choice Award winner will be offered a one-person show in one of the center's galleries. The juror is Tony Ortega, an MFA holder from the University of Colorado and full professor at Regis University.
Entry fee is $35 (non-refundable) and includes up to five entries per artist. Submissions must include 1-5 digital images and/or up to 5 video files. Images must be high-resolution (at least 300 dpi) in .tiff or .jpg format at 1,650 pixels wide. Works must have been completed within the last three years (2015 or later) and must not have been previously shown at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center. Artwork drop-off is January 11, 2019. The exhibition runs February 1 - May 2, 2019, with an opening reception on February 1 from 4:30-7 p.m. and an Artists'/Juror's Talk on February 2 from 11 a.m. - noon. Artwork pickup or return is May 6-17, 2019. The center manages all sales and receives a 40% commission on retail price. Artists are responsible for transportation costs and shipping.
