Renascence 07: A Call for New Media

VSA arts is seeking innovative, experimental artists whose work demonstrates the creative fusion of visual art with interactive or sensory experience, communication and information technologies, movement or performance, and/or audio production. The call is open to artists ages 18 and above who are committed to their artistic progress and who have a physical, cognitive, or mental disability. Work entered must be completed after the onset of disability. Applicants from a wide range of practices, such as digital arts, installation, and time-based media, are encouraged to apply.

Eligible media include installations and/or performances, Web, video, media, or Internet art, immersive environments, non-traditional media, visual music performances, sound sculpture, and street art. Work must be an original work completed in the last five years and after the onset of disability. There is no entry fee. Each artist must submit 4 JPEG images representing their work. Applicants must also complete the submission process online through CaFE, including an artist's narrative (no more than 2,500 characters), a current resume, a personal statement responding to the exhibition theme (no more than 350 characters), and a headshot photograph in JPEG format. Supplemental materials such as CDs or DVDs with video, film, or audio components may be mailed to VSA arts, c/o Renascence, 818 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20006, and must be postmarked by the deadline.

Selected artwork will be presented in Washington, D.C., during April-June of 2007. Artists will be notified by Friday, March 16, 2007. VSA arts is responsible for shipping costs and insurance. If artwork is available for sale, VSA arts will determine the retail price and pay the artist the wholesale price as listed in CaFE.
