About This Call

Remedy: Art Is the Cure is a juried exhibition by the Santa Barbara Abstract Art Collective in collaboration with the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission. The exhibition runs from September 20, 2021 through March 25, 2022 at Channing Peake Gallery, located at 105 E. Anapamu Street in Santa Barbara. A reception will be held on October 7, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 PM. The exhibition invites artists from Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Luis Obispo counties to submit abstract work celebrating the theme "Remedy: Art Is the Cure." Accepted media includes paintings, drawings, hand-pulled prints, archival quality digital prints (no giclèe copies of original artwork), photography, collage, fiber art, assemblage, and sculpture. The AAC supports a broad definition of abstract art ranging from non-objective to conceptual, where recognizable images must be sufficiently deconstructed or removed from reality.

Eligibility is open to all AAC members and artists currently living in Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Luis Obispo counties. Students are encouraged to apply and student entries are free. A maximum of 3 works can be submitted at $25 for the first piece and $10 for each additional piece. Online submissions are accepted from August 3 through September 3, 2021 at 11:59 PM PST. Provisional acceptance notifications will be sent via email on September 13, 2021. Physical ingathering is scheduled for September 17, 2021 from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM at the gallery, where final curatorial decisions will be made by the jurors, the AAC, and the Santa Barbara County Office of Arts and Culture. Approximately thirty to forty pieces will be selected. The exhibition will be juried by Tony Askew and Joyce Wilson. AAC will process all sales and deduct a 10% fee from each sale. A suggested 25% donation to the County Arts Commission is encouraged and voluntary.
