Remastered

Remastered is a Fall 2025 group exhibition seeking irreverent, creative, and joyfully blasphemous takes on famous artworks. The show features copies, forgeries, ill-conceived restorations, and imaginative misinterpretations of famous artworks, artists, and art movements. This exhibition challenges the solemnity of the art world by asking: What if irreverence is the sincerest form of flattery?

Submissions are accepted in six categories: Masterpieces Reimagined (famous masterpieces with creative reinterpretation), Time-Traveling Portraits (historical figures redressed or reimagined in modern or futuristic style), Mashups & Collisions (combining two or more famous works, movements, or artists), Art School Dropouts (purposefully bad or beginner versions of famous paintings), Movement Misfits (works exploring or satirizing an artist or movement), and Show Offs (well-rendered copies of masterpieces). Accepted media includes illustration, sculpture, paintings, collage, and found objects. Human-generated art only; no AI-generated work. Entry fee is $20.00, with an additional $20.00 media fee for additional artwork submissions. Submit 1-3 images.

Prizes will be awarded in each entry category, with prize money reflecting current forged art market value. A "People's Choice" visual-art award will be given for the artwork receiving the most votes from exhibition visitors. The exhibition runs November 7 – December 5, 2025 at The Ake Gallery, 165 South Main Street, Cortland, NY 13045. Submission deadline is October 4, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Accepted artists will be notified October 17. Art drop-off and delivery occurs October 31–November 2. Exhibition events include an opening night reception (November 7), karaoke night (November 14), an improvisational art show (November 22), and a closing party with awards (December 5). Artwork pickup is available Saturdays December 6 and 13 from 12–6 PM, or via postage-paid return package.
