ReGeneration

ReGeneration is a residency program at ArtVale Gallery exploring themes of loss, rebuilding, and regeneration in artistic practice. The program invites artists to consider how their work manifests the concept of regeneration and to engage with discussions about cultural climate, art history, social change, and beneficial economies.

Accepted applicants will meet every Sunday from September 30th through November 4th (six total meetings) from 1-4pm at ArtVale Gallery (3463 Champion Street, Oakland, CA) for group discussions and critical review of works-in-progress. At the end of the program, there will be a group exhibition at ArtVale Gallery. Ten artists will be accepted, plus two youth fellowships for artists aged 16-21. Eligibility is limited to individuals 21 and older (or 16-21 for youth fellowships) working in all media from the California Bay Area. Artists must be able to attend all six Sunday meetings. A $40 participation fee is required upon acceptance to cover promotion and facility costs.

Submissions should include a portfolio (up to 5 images and up to 2 audio/visual samples), a 2-3 paragraph proposal describing a project to be completed during the residency that addresses the residency themes, an artist statement, and optionally a resume and biography. All materials should include the artist's name and contact information. The submission deadline is August 31st, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
