About This Call
The City of Blue Springs Public Art Commission seeks artists for "Regenerate," the thirteenth year of their temporary public art exhibition. Four sculptures will be selected for outdoor display at Colonial Gardens (27610 E. Wyatt Rd, Blue Springs, MO 64014), a local agri-tourism business. The exhibition will run from April 4, 2022 through April 1, 2023, with installation between March 15-31, 2022.
Artwork should relate to the theme "Regenerate," exploring how horticultural environments and art have positive effects on lives and community. Two sculptures will be placed along a major thoroughfare with sidewalk access, and two in high-traffic accessible locations within the business. Media can include bronze, stone, wood, metal, mosaic, ceramics, or other materials suitable for exterior display. Kinetic or interactive art is encouraged. Artworks must be durable, require no maintenance during the 12-month exhibition, and withstand western Missouri weather conditions including heavy rains, high heat, humidity, high winds, and seasonal snow or freezing precipitation.
Each selected artist will receive a $2,500 honorarium for the 12-month exhibition. Artists are responsible for transporting, installing, and removing their artwork; Colonial Gardens may provide some installation costs and on-site equipment. Artworks may be offered for sale, with PAC and Colonial Gardens holding right of first refusal for purchase. If purchased for permanent exhibit, the $2,500 honorarium will be credited toward the purchase price. Artists must be 18 or older and open to all professional and emerging artists nationally. Application deadline: October 31, 2021, midnight MDT. Submit a letter of interest, current resume, and 4-6 jpeg images of your body of work through CAFÉ.
