About This Call
RedLine is a diverse urban laboratory where arts, education and community converge. The organization fosters forms of social practice in the arts that inspire inquiry and catalyze change.
The Artists-in-Residence Program engages approximately 15–20 artists at any given time for a two-year residency period. As part of the residency, artists receive studio space and mentoring from three to four accomplished artists per year. Interactivity is a core element: artists engage in healthy art criticism and vibrant debate as they grow together as artists and in the community. RedLine engages artists to participate in various educational forums to learn new techniques and hone existing skills. Artists working in all mediums are welcome to apply, including writers, filmmakers, performance artists, photographers, and visual artists. Each artist is responsible for outfitting their studio with the necessary tools to produce their works.
Application Requirements: Artist Statement, Cover Letter (addressing issues and concerns faced in artistic career, why you consider yourself an emerging artist, how you may benefit from the residency, career goals, and how you heard about the program), Letter of Intent (defining community and its importance, describing community work or volunteer experience, and major influence for applying), Current Resume (including current employment status and three creative or community references with contact information), and a paragraph on how you can enhance RedLine's mission. Entry fee is $30.00. Applicants may submit up to 16 artwork samples: up to 10 images, up to 3 audio files, and up to 3 video files. Application payment by check or money order only in U.S. Funds; checks must be postmarked by the application deadline of July 18, 2012.
