About This Call

RedLine is a nonprofit contemporary art center that fosters education and engagement between artists and communities to create positive social change. The organization is accepting applications for its Artist-in-Residence program, offering two-year residencies for 15-18 emerging, contemporary artists. As part of the residency, artists receive fully subsidized studio spaces, mentorship, career development, and professional support from RedLine's staff, resource artists, and fellow residents. Artists will have opportunities to engage in studio visits with curators and arts professionals, attend alumni trips and events, develop and propose exhibitions, participate in programming, and increase visibility through the Open Studio environment. Artists are also invited to participate in RedLine's educational programs, community events, visiting artists, and exhibitions.

The residency program is based on an equitable selection process that values accessibility, inclusivity, collaboration, and collective leadership. Artists will work in proximity to their peers within a community of mutual support that fosters networking and collaboration. Note that artists are responsible for outfitting their studio with necessary tools and for arranging their own housing during the two-year period. RedLine does not have a wood shop, and use of toxic materials is only permitted outside the premises.

Application deadline is July 5, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Entry fee is $40 (check, money order, or PayPal accepted). Applicants must submit an artist statement, letter of intent (addressing creative practice and RedLine's mission), community engagement responses (including experience with students/adults and anticipated weekly studio time), current resume, and three professional references. Work samples should include 5-10 images, and may include up to 5 audio files and 5 video files (5-20 total samples required). Application fee waivers are available upon request. Artists not accepted will have application fees applied to a RedLine membership.
