About This Call
RedLine is a nonprofit contemporary art center that fosters education and engagement between artists and communities to create positive social change. The organization is accepting applications for its 2018 Artist-in-Residence program, offering two-year residencies for 15-18 emerging, contemporary artists. Residents receive fully subsidized studio spaces, mentorship, career development, and exposure. The residency program is based on an equitable selection process that values accessibility, relevance, inclusivity, diversity, collaboration, and collective leadership.
The program runs from September 7, 2018 to January 18, 2019. Artists are responsible for outfitting their studio with necessary tools and arranging their own housing during the two years. Use of toxic materials is only permitted outside of the premises. The entry fee is $35. Application fee waivers are available due to financial hardship or other reasons; contact [email protected] with the subject "RA Application Payment." Artists not accepted to the program will have application fees applied to a RedLine membership.
Applications must include: artist statement (500 words or less), letter of intent addressing how participation supports RedLine's mission and how the residency supports artistic practice (500 words or less), professional development interests (500 words or less), community engagement experience and community-related interests (350 words each), optional additional information (500 words or less), current resume/CV, and three professional references with full contact information. Work sample requirements: minimum 5 images, maximum 10 images; audio and video samples optional (0-10 each); total samples between 5-20. The program is open to international applicants.
