RedLine Artist-In-Residence 2017 Call for Entry

RedLine is a nonprofit contemporary art center that fosters education and engagement between artists and communities to create positive social change. The organization is accepting applications for its 2017 Artist-in-Residence program, offering two-year residencies for 15-18 emerging, contemporary artists. In addition to mentorship, career development, and promotion, residents receive fully subsidized studio spaces, which provides financial flexibility and frees artists to explore and experiment without commercial constraints. Artists work in proximity to their peers within a community of mutual support that fosters networking and collaboration.

The residency program is based upon an equitable selection process that values accessibility, relevance, inclusivity, collaboration, and collective leadership. By merging contemporary art with arts education and community involvement, RedLine helps bring the transformative power of art to the surrounding neighborhoods and beyond.

Applicants must submit an artist statement (1000 character limit), letter of intent, community engagement responses (350 words maximum), current resume, and three professional references. Work samples should include a minimum of 5 and maximum of 10 images, with up to 10 audio files and 10 video files permitted (total samples between 5-20). The application fee is $35. Artists are responsible for outfitting their studio with necessary tools and arranging their own housing during the two-year residency. Use of toxic materials is only permitted outside of the premises.
