About This Call
The Red Rocks North Concession Stand Project Selection Panel is seeking a Colorado artist or team of artists for a site-specific public art commission. The newly constructed north concession stand is located in the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, north of Morrison, Colorado, on Highway 26, 15 miles west of Denver. Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a geologically formed, open-air amphitheatre nestled into the Rocky Mountain foothills, featuring two three-hundred-foot sandstone monoliths (Ship Rock and Creation Rock) that provide acoustic perfection for performances.
The Project Selection Panel has identified three possible exterior public art locations near the newly built north concession stand: a natural landscaped area with ground cover and plantings towards the west of the concession stand's upper landing/deck with a retaining wall that could accommodate work; a location at the northeast side of the concession stand with native grasses, ground cover and plantings; and a smaller space containing a stone creek drain adjacent to the second location. The total contract to be awarded is approximately $15,000.00, inclusive of all costs including the artist's design fee, consultation fees, structural engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, travel, per diem expenses, project documentation, and contingency.
Applicants may apply as a single artist or multi-person collaboration. Applicants must submit eight (8) digital images of previously completed artwork, a letter of interest of no more than 250 words, and a current resume of no longer than two pages through the CaFĔ online application system. There is no application fee. The Selection Panel will select three semi-finalists, each receiving an honorarium of $300.00 to prepare and present a final proposal in person. The deadline for entry is Friday, November 2, 2007. Semi-finalists will be selected by Friday, November 16, 2007, with finalist selection by Friday, January 4, 2008, and finalist notification in early February 2008. A pre-submission meeting will be held on Friday, October 26, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Artists working in any medium are eligible to apply, and previous experience in public art is not required. All applicants are requested to consider long-term conservation and maintenance, as public art projects are exposed to weather and subject to vandalism.
