About This Call
Red Rocks Community College seeks qualifications from Colorado-based artists and artist teams interested in creating site-specific public artwork for the new Health Professions & Science Building on the college's Arvada campus. The construction project is slated for completion by August 2016, with a public art budget of $50,000.
The artwork must be 2D and/or wall-mounted, with sculptural works acceptable if wall-mounted and not projecting significantly into space. Potential wall locations include the main floor welcome area and student lounge, with one large entry wall approximately 20' x 24'. The committee welcomes both large-scale installations and smaller-scale works for other wall spaces. The commissioned artwork should reflect an understanding of the building's use and the Health Sciences Campus' holistic approach to health, addressing both mental and physical wellness.
Applicants must be Colorado residents. The selection committee will evaluate artistic excellence, technical competence, thematic relevance, conceptual compatibility, scale, material, form, content, structural integrity, resistance to wear and vandalism, and maintenance requirements. Semi-finalists will be invited to propose artwork and will receive $1,000 as an honorarium for design proposals. Applications require six digital images of previously completed artworks, a resume, and a statement of interest (250 words or less). There is no application fee. Selection panel will meet in March 2016, with semi-finalist notifications in March/April 2016.
