About This Call
LexArts Inc. in association with Red Mile Gaming & Racing seeks artists to create a vibrant public mural or art installation on the walls of the main interior entry way at Red Mile Gaming & Racing in Lexington, KY. The organization will commission proposals from three experienced public artists with the expectation of realizing one proposal in winter 2023/2024. There is no application fee.
The selected site features three spaces approximately 20'x20', 20'x20', and 10'x20', totaling approximately 1000 square feet. The project budget is up to $20,000, all-inclusive to cover artist fees, travel, research, execution, insurance, taxes, site preparation, equipment rental, and materials. Artists must be able to legally work in the United States, be at least 18 years of age, and have successfully completed large outdoor murals over 200 square feet in the past.
Initial submissions must include a current resume (required), an optional one-page artist statement describing public art experience and interest in the project, and up to 6 digital images of past murals with descriptions of size, budget, year completed, and location. Three finalists will be selected and paid $500 upon delivery of a complete site-specific proposal including composition, concept statement, and process outlining budget and timeline. Selection criteria include artistic distinction, experience creating high-quality large-scale murals, low maintenance and durability, and contextual integration into the facility. Timeline: Artist qualifications deadline September 30, 2023; artist notifications October 15, 2023; finalist proposals due November 25, 2023; artwork creation January 2024.
