Red – An Exploration of Color, Emotion, and Meaning

Bitfactory Gallery invites artists to explore the theme of "Red" for this special 10th anniversary exhibition. What does red mean to you? Is it the hue itself, or does it evoke deeper emotions, ideas, or experiences? Does it symbolize power, passion, danger, love, or something entirely unique to you? This open call seeks works in two-dimensional media where red functions as a central color, symbolic representation, or exploration of its cultural or emotional significance.

The exhibition welcomes artists working in painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and digital art. Works will be juried by gallery owner and curator Bill Thomason. The maximum size for two-dimensional work is 60 X 60 inches, including framing. Acceptable media includes photography, painting, collage, fiber/textile, mixed media, and printed works where the artist's hand manipulated the plates, stones, or screens and properly signed and numbered as limited editions. AI-created or enhanced artwork is not allowed. Giclée prints and poster prints are not permitted. Artwork must be original, by personal execution, and not previously shown at Bitfactory Gallery.

Entry fee is $35.00 for up to 3 images, with $5.00 per additional image up to 15 total images. All fees are non-refundable. The entry deadline is April 6, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artist notification is April 8, 2025. Shipped artwork must arrive by April 14, 2025, or hand-delivered on April 15, 2025 between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The exhibition runs April 18 – May 10, 2025, with an opening reception on April 18 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Artists may pick up unsold work on May 10, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. Bitfactory Gallery retains a 30% commission on sales, with artists paid within 14 days of the exhibition closing. Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping and insurance. This is a national call open to artists 18 years or older who are current residents of the United States and its territories.
