About This Call

The Town of Parker Cultural Department is commissioning a public art installation for the indoor leisure pool area in the Town's newly expanded Recreation Center. This $40,000 all-inclusive commission is restricted to professional Colorado artists. The public art will be located on three adjacent cement block walls at the rear of the pool area, which is highly visible from the leisure pool, the prominent front entry of the Rec Center, and second floor workout areas. Preference is for contemporary 3D artwork, permanently installed on the cement block walls. The piece should be large, colorful, and visible through the pool area's west-facing windows. The artwork needs to be low maintenance and resistant to humidity and chlorine.

Applicants must submit 5-10 images and up to 2 videos (5-12 total samples). All three-dimensional submissions must adhere to life-safety codes, including codes concerning means of egress, fire protection, swimming pool and spa, and ADA requirements. Submissions shall not obstruct fire suppression systems, mechanical diffusers, lifeguard sightlines, or reduce pool deck space. Wall-mounted submissions must not exceed 500 lbs per connection point and must be securely fastened through concrete masonry units. Materials must tolerate natatorium environments; metals should be aluminum or treated with protective coating rated for natatoriums. All mechanical fasteners must be rated for natatorium environments.

Up to three finalists will be selected to present in-depth proposals to the selection committee either in-person or via online video. All finalists will receive a $400 honorarium. The final selection will be made by the Town Council on July 20, 2015. Submission deadline: May 29, 2015, 4:00 pm. Committee review: early June. Finalist notification: mid-June. Finalist proposals: mid-July. Contract issued: August 1. The goal for art installation is the end of 2015. Questions should be sent via email to Elaine Mariner, Cultural Director: [email protected]
