About This Call
GearBox Gallery invites submissions to its 10th annual juried exhibition, Reclaimed / Repurposed. Open to Northern California artists over the age of 21, this exhibition invites artwork submissions exploring the concept or process of reclaiming or repurposing, from the reuse of objects or materials to ideas of environmental reclamation or rethinking language.
Entries may be of any medium created between 2020 and 2024. Submit up to 3 image or media files (images in JPEG/JPG format up to 5MB; video/audio in MOV, MP4, WMV, 3GP, AVI, ASF, MPG, M2T, MKV, M2TS format up to 100MB). Entry fee is $35 (non-refundable). Works must be able to be delivered through a standard size doorway, framed when applicable, and ready to hang or display. All entries must include title, medium, year, and specific dimensions. The gallery reserves the right not to exhibit exceptionally large, heavy, unstable, or cumbersome pieces.
Selected artwork will be chosen by juror Nancy Toomey through a blind jury process. Two awards will be given: the Juror's Award (featured in a two-person exhibition at GearBox Gallery in the following year) and the GearBox Gallery Award (exhibition in the Inner Room at GearBox Gallery in the following year). Notification of selections will be made by email on August 12, 2024. Exhibition dates are September 12 - October 12, 2024. Selected artwork must be hand-delivered to GearBox Gallery (770 W. Grand Ave, Oakland, CA) between noon and 4pm on September 8, 2024. Artwork must be picked up between noon and 4pm on October 13, 2024. Artwork remaining past pick-up dates will be subject to a $10 per day storage fee; after 15 days it becomes gallery property. All submitted artwork must be for sale. GearBox Gallery retains 40% of sale prices and a 25% referral commission on sales within three months after the exhibition if sold as a direct result of the display. By submitting, artists grant GearBox Gallery permission to photograph and use images of accepted artwork for promotional, educational, or historical purposes.
