Recent Works: A Juried Competition

Recent Works is a juried competition open to all artists age 18 or older who reside or work in Lake County, Illinois. Artists may submit up to two entries completed within the last two years. The entry fee is $20 for 1-2 pieces. Over $1,000 in cash awards will be presented based on jurors' selections, along with purchase awards. Jurors are Doug Jeppesen, Associate Professor of Art at Waubonsee Community College, and Nina Weiss, Adjunct Professor at Columbia College, Chicago.

All work must be original, never before shown in the Robert T. Wright Gallery of Art, and completed within the last two years. Works are limited to 72" in any direction. Paintings may be in any medium and must be dry, framed, and wired. Works on canvas with a finished and presentable edge need not be framed. Prints, drawings, and photographs must be framed, under glass or plexi, and wired. Sculpture and ceramics may be free-standing or supportable on a base; entries over 100 lbs. require prior arrangement by calling 847-543-2240. Multiple pieces (diptychs, triptychs, etc.) may be selected in part at the jurors' discretion.

Accepted works must be delivered to the gallery on Tuesday, September 30th between 10 am-7 pm. The exhibition runs October 3 - November 9, 2014, with an opening reception on Friday, October 3, from 7-9 p.m. Exhibited work must remain in place for the duration of the show. Pick-up is Monday, November 10, 10 am-7 p.m. in the gallery. All work for sale will be at the artist's valuation; a 35% commission will be retained by the gallery on all work sold. Accepted works will be insured with a maximum coverage of $3,000.
