About This Call
Real People is open to all artists and media. Submitted work must depict the human form or face in some manner that is recognizable. Works previously shown at the Old Court House Arts Center are not eligible for entry, including any works previously accepted for Real People or Women's Works.
Artists 18 years and older may submit up to 3 recently completed original pieces. Each image should represent only one piece of art; do not submit detail images or multiple angles as separate submissions. Artwork made up of multiple pieces (diptychs, triptychs, etc.) should be represented by only one image. Gallery size limitation is six feet in any single dimension and 60 lbs. including packaging. Prints are allowed only if common practice for the media (photography, lithography, block-printing, bronze casting, etc.); gicleés and other reproductions are not acceptable. All work must be for sale with a 30% sales commission on sold works. The entry fee is $40.00 for up to three images. A $10.00 discount is available for artists who applied to Women's Works 2020, Real People 2019, or the Heaven & Hell show.
The exhibit will be held at the Old Court House Arts Center in Woodstock, IL (northwest of Chicago) from Thursday, September 3rd to Saturday, October 31st. The judge is Chicago artist Joyce Owens, who holds an MFA from Yale and BFA from Howard University. Awards include First, Second, and Third Place, Three Artistic Merit Awards, and other cash prizes totaling $1,500.00, plus 3 Gold one-year memberships and 3 Blue one-year memberships to Biafarin (an online artist management platform). An online gallery will also be created in partnership with Biafarin. The application deadline is 11:59pm CDT on Sunday, July 19th. Jury notifications will be emailed by Saturday, July 25th. All accepted artwork must be at the gallery by Sunday, August 30th. Unsold artwork will be shipped back to artists within four weeks of the close of the show.
