About This Call

The Raymore Arts Commission is seeking one leasable, pre-existing outdoor sculpture to be installed for two years at T.B. Hanna Station, a park located at 214 S. Washington Street, Raymore, Missouri. The sculpture site will have an approximately 4'x6' concrete base and is fully accessible, with black wrought-iron fencing on one side that borders a playground. Special considerations will be given to interactive art pieces.

The Arts Commission is seeking original, pre-existing artworks in any media suitable for outdoor space. The public art piece must be structurally sound and secured to the concrete pad with anchor bolts or similar devices, not extending significantly beyond the boundary. The work must be capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions common to the Midwest, including cold winters, occasional ice and snow, wind, humidity, hot summers, thunderstorms and heavy rain. The piece must be suitable for interaction from the public, including children, with protection from possible injury from materials. The work must not include sharp objects or be easily climbable. The work must be available for 23 months, from installation before the end of October 2020 to removal in September 2022. There is lighting at the park, but no direct lighting at the installation site.

The selected artist will receive a $3,000 stipend for the two-year lease ($1,500 upon installation, $1,500 upon removal). The artist is responsible for transporting, installing, and removing the work. The selected artist will enter into a contract with the City of Raymore and will retain full legal title and copyrights to the art while on temporary loan. The artist or artist's designee shall be responsible for maintaining the sculpture; the City shall be responsible for maintaining the exhibition site. Notification of the selected artist will be no later than October 13, 2020. The exhibition is open to all artists who are at least 18 years of age.
