About This Call
The Raymore Arts Commission is seeking one original sculpture for temporary public art display in Memorial Park from May 2022 to April 2024. The selected work will be displayed in an open green space near the park's north entrance, surrounded by parking, sand volleyball courts, baseball fields, a concession building, covered pavilion, and tennis courts.
The sculpture must be freestanding, structurally sound, and capable of withstanding Missouri's weather conditions including cold winters, ice, snow, wind, humidity, hot summers, thunderstorms, and heavy rain. The base must fit within a 6x6 ft square concrete pad and can be secured with bolts. The piece must be suitable for public interaction, including children, with no sharp objects, easily climbable features, or tripping hazards. Height shall not create a balance hazard. Materials must be durable and able to withstand variant temperatures. Artists are responsible for transporting, installing, and removing the artwork. The selected artist will receive a $3,000 honorarium ($1,500 upon installation and $1,500 upon removal), public recognition, and an opportunity for sales. The artwork must be installed by May 26, 2022 and removed during April 2024.
Submit up to three completed works with up to five digital images per entry, artist name, entry title, materials and dimensions, description of how the sculpture will be secured, artist statement, website link or professional resume, and asking price. The program is open to all artists regardless of location who are at least 18 years of age. All entries must be original work. Selected artist will be notified by March 18, 2022.
