About This Call
The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation launched this program in 2012 to support artists and other creative individuals through the gifts of time, space, resources and community. The Rauschenberg Residency is sited on Captiva Island, Florida, where Robert Rauschenberg lived and worked for almost 40 years. The 20-acre facility is infused with a unique history, creativity, beauty and serenity, featuring historic and modern structures that create an idyllic backdrop for the artistic process.
Participants are identified by a geographically and culturally diverse group of Selectors through an anonymous process. Participants are provided with travel, meals, housing, use of equipment, staff resources, and a $3,500 stipend. The facility includes 9 buildings serving as housing and studio spaces in a communal environment where bed and bath are private, but housing is shared along with some studio spaces and the majority of meals. The entire facility except one historic structure is wireless and air conditioned.
Studio spaces include: Main Studio (8,000 sq. ft.) with digital imaging, audio and video computer workstations, photo silkscreen printing, B/W photographic darkroom, 2D and 3D studio, fabrication workshop, sound studio, and ceramics studio; Print Studio (lithography, etching); Writing Studio; Dance Studio; and Multipurpose Studios. A full list of equipment and materials and the Residency contract will be sent following notification of residency date.
