About This Call
Alaska Photographic Center invites photographers residing in Alaska to participate in Rarefied Light 2025, Alaska's largest juried photography exhibition. The 2025 juror is Stephanie Johnson, an interdisciplinary artist, filmmaker, and educator based in Tiffen, Iowa, who specializes in Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), Multiple Exposure (ME), and Creative Photography techniques. Johnson is the Founder and Publisher of ICM Photography Magazine and teaches workshops through Santa Fe Workshops.
The competition is open to all forms and categories of photography except AI-generated work. All work submitted must be original, created and owned by the submitting photographer, and not previously exhibited or scheduled for exhibition in a statewide juried exhibition in Alaska. Participants may submit 1-20 images. Entry fees are $30 for the first image and $10 for each additional image for non-members; APC members pay $15 for the first entry and $5 for each additional entry. Optional APC membership is $25 for one year, or $15 for students and seniors (65+). Judging will be completed online using digital submissions, with participants notified of acceptance in July. Selected artwork must be exhibition-ready by September 2025 and framed according to specific requirements: simple black, white, or silver frames no wider than 1.5 inches, white or natural museum board matting only, and maximum frame size of 24 inches on the longest side.
Awards include a Best of Show selection with a $300 award and Honorable Mention awards of $100. The final exhibition will tour Anchorage, Fairbanks, Kenai, and Valdez, with selected artwork scheduled to be returned to artists in fall 2026. Sales are encouraged at each venue, with each gallery taking their standard commission. All copyrights remain with photographers. APC is not liable for artwork damaged during shipping or display.
