Rarefied Light 2020

Rarefied Light 2020 is a photography competition open to all photographers residing in Alaska. All photographically derived works are eligible, including two-dimensional prints or three-dimensional objects and sculpture incorporating a photographic process. Only original works not previously exhibited or scheduled for exhibition in a statewide juried exhibition in Alaska are eligible for submission. Recent work is preferred.

Judging is completed in a two-step process. Artists submit digital files for initial judging by the juror, and those with selected work will be notified to submit exhibition-ready artwork for final judging in Anchorage. Entry fees are $30 for the first image and $10 for each additional image for non-members; APC members pay $20 for the first entry and $5 for each additional entry. There is no limit to the number of entries that may be submitted. APC membership is optional at $25 for one-year membership, or $15 for students and senior citizens (65 and older).

Awards include a Best of Show selection with a $300 award provided by APC, and Honorable Mention Awards of $100. Selected artwork must be exhibition-ready by June 27, 2020, and must meet specific framing and presentation requirements. Two-dimensional art should be framed and matted with white or natural white museum board in a simple black, white, or silver colored metal or wood frame. Frame size is limited to 30 inches on the longest side. Plexiglass must be used for framed artwork larger than 20 inches. Metal and Canvas prints must be framed for protection. Rarefied Light has exhibitions in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Kenai, with selected art scheduled to be returned to the artist in spring 2020. Sales are encouraged, with each venue taking their standard gallery commission. All copyrights remain with the photographers.
