Rarefied Light 2018

Rarefied Light is a photography competition open to all photographers residing in Alaska. All photographically derived works are eligible, including two-dimensional prints and three-dimensional objects and sculpture incorporating a photographic process. Only original works not previously exhibited or scheduled for exhibition in a statewide juried exhibition in Alaska are eligible. Recent work is preferred.

Judging is completed in a two-step process. An initial judging is conducted from all digital entries, followed by final judging of selected exhibition-ready artwork in Anchorage. Artists with selected work from the initial judging will be notified and must submit exhibition-ready art for final judging by June 2nd, 2018. Entry fees are $20 for the first image and $10 for each additional image for non-members; APC members pay $15 for the first entry and $5 for each additional entry. APC membership is optional at $25 for one year ($15 for students or seniors 65 and older). There is no limit to the number of entries that may be submitted.

Awards include a Best of Show selection with a $300 award provided by APC, and Honorable Mention Awards of $100. Exhibition-ready artwork must be framed and matted with white or natural white museum board in a simple, neutral-colored metal or wood frame (with exceptions for images printed directly on 3D objects). Frame size is limited to 30 inches on the longest side. Plexiglass must be used for framed artwork larger than 20 inches. Rarefied Light has exhibitions in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Kenai, with selected art scheduled to be returned to the artist in spring 2019. Selected artwork cannot be withdrawn prior to the end of the tour. APC will not be liable for artwork damaged during shipping or display. Sales will be encouraged at each venue, with each gallery taking their standard commission. All copyrights remain with the photographers.
