Rarefied Light 2016

Rarefied Light is a photography competition open to all photographers residing in Alaska. All photographically derived works are eligible, including two-dimensional prints and three-dimensional objects and sculpture incorporating a photographic process. Only original works not previously exhibited or scheduled for exhibition in a statewide juried exhibition in Alaska are eligible. Recent work is preferred.

Judging is completed in a two-step process. An initial judging is conducted from all digital entries, followed by final judging of selected exhibition-ready artwork in Anchorage. All entries must be submitted as digital files for initial judging. Artists with selected work will be notified and must submit exhibition-ready art for final judging by July 16th. Two-dimensional art should be framed and matted with white or natural white museum board in a simple, neutral-colored metal or wood frame. Artwork with any dimension larger than 24" must use plastic such as plexiglass or lexan. Three-dimensional objects and artwork printed directly on metal or fabric are exempt from standard framing requirements.

Entry fees are $30 for the first image and $10 for each additional entry (non-members); APC members pay $15 for the first entry and $5 for each additional entry. APC membership is optional at $25 for one year. There is no limit to the number of entries that may be submitted. Awards include a Best of Show selection with a $300 award and Honorable Mention Awards of $100. Rarefied Light exhibitions are held in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Kenai, and Cordova. Selected art is scheduled to be returned to the artist in spring 2015 and cannot be withdrawn prior to the end of the tour. Works larger than 40" X 32" will not travel outside of Anchorage due to shipping constraints and exhibition space limitations. Sales are encouraged, with each venue taking their standard gallery commission. All copyrights remain with the photographers.
