About This Call

The Cabrillo Gallery seeks entries for RARE EARTH: National Ceramics Exhibition, open to US artists working in functional and/or sculptural ceramics, including mixed media work that is primarily ceramic. Selected works will be exhibited October 3–October 28, 2016 at Cabrillo Gallery. Three cash awards will be presented: $500 First Place, $250 Second Place, and $100 Third Place. The juror is Kirk Delman, Collections Manager of the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery at Scripps College.

Eligibility is open to all artists residing in the United States working in functional or sculptural ceramics, including mixed media work consisting primarily of ceramic materials. Entries must be original work completed within the last three years and not previously shown at Cabrillo Gallery. Entry fee is $30 for the first three entries, plus $5 for each additional entry, up to a maximum of 10 entries. Submissions must include professional quality JPEG images (72 ppi, minimum 1920 pixels on longest side, files smaller than 5MB). The submission deadline is August 6, 2016 at 11:59pm MDT. Acceptance and awards will be announced August 20.

Dimensions may not exceed 90 x 72 inches, and entries must be able to pass through standard-sized double doors (gallery height limit is 10.5 feet). Freestanding works must be firmly stable, wall-mounted work must have a secure hanging system, and large-scale installations must be installed by the artist. Participants are responsible for shipping or delivering artwork and for return shipping or pick-up after the exhibition. Artists will receive 75% from sales, with the gallery retaining a 25% commission. Hand delivery is September 26–27, 10am–5pm; pick-up is October 31–November 1, 10am–5pm. Shipped artwork should arrive September 22, 23, 26, or 27, with return shipping beginning October 31. For questions, contact Beverly Rayner at [email protected] or Rose Sellery at [email protected].
