About This Call
This is a Request for Proposals (RFP) Phase II for semi-finalists invited to submit proposals for the Main Street Square Sculpture On-Site Commission in Rapid City. The Rapid City Arts Council, in partnership with Destination Rapid City, is requesting proposals from invited semi-finalists based on their initial applications. All proposals must be submitted through CallForEntry, and only online proposals will be considered.
As a project semifinalist, you are requested to provide a variety of sketches and images portraying your general idea or range of ideas for the Main Street Square sculpture project, along with specific works from your portfolio most applicable to this project. Provide a written description of your concept or concepts, including a description of what each image represents. Semi-finalists should avoid duplication of information included in original applications. Semi-finalists are welcome to submit up to two concepts for consideration. Twenty images per concept are preferred, with a maximum of 40 images total. Work sample requirements: minimum 5 images, maximum 40 images total.
The sculpture project will make use of granite stones already in place on-site, arranged in symbolic reference to regional landscapes. One contract will be awarded for a sculptural series to be created using the available stones, with all sculptures to be completed within 3-5 years. The budget is not to exceed $2,000,000. A significant portion of the sculpting must take place on site in Rapid City, with some interaction between the artist and visitors expected. The selected sculptor is responsible for public safety during the sculpting process and must delineate in advance what measures will be taken to protect the public from harmful flying or falling objects and other potential physical harm. Destination Rapid City will retain copyrights to the sculptures unless other arrangements are made with the selected artist. The selection committee has determined that semi-finalist names will not be made public, and semi-finalists are requested to keep their applications confidential.
